PADI Tec 50

Dive to 165'!

PADI Tec Course Breakdown:

The PADI Tec Rec Courses are structured to build upon the skills of the previous class. The progression of classes are:

 

This allows the diver to take baby steps throughout their Open Circuit Technical Diving Courses. There is no bigger concern than task loading a diver with too many skills and variables to early on throughout their course. The PADI Tec Courses will ensure the diver is 100% comfortable with each step along the way of becoming a proficient technical diver.

Tec 50 Objective:

  • To qualify the diver to make limited decompression dives using air, nitrox, and oxygen to a depth of 165' or less.

  • To train the diver in the knowledge, procedures, and motor skills required for decompression diving within the limitations of the Tec 50 certification.

  • To assure the diver understands and acknowledges the hazards and risks associated with this level of tec diving and tec diving in general.

  • To train the diver to prepare for and respond to reasonably foreseeable emergencies that may occur within Tec 50 limits.

  • To lay the foundation to continue your training into Tec Trimix 65 and beyond.

Tec 50 Diver is Qualified to:

  • Make limited decompression dives using air, nitrox, and oxygen to 165' or less.

  • Use two decompression gases of EANx and 100% oxygen to make your decompression more conservative or to accelerate your decompression.

Prerequisites: 

  • ​Must be Tec 45 certified or equivalent

  • 100 logged dives (20 deeper than 60' using EANx, 15 deeper than 100')

  • Rescue Diver w/ Current CPR & AED Training (within the past 2 years)

  • Must have current DAN Dive Insurance (or equivalent)

  • Must have current RSTC medical signed by doctor (valid of one year)

What is Involved?

  • ​Independent Study (home study) 

  • ​Knowledge Development (classroom) 

  • 4-Open Water Dives


Required Course Materials:

  • PADI Tec Diver Manual

Tec 50 Required Equipment:

  • Double cylinders of at least 70 cu/ft each with isolator manifold (unless diving sidemount)

  • Primary and secondary regulators for back mounted double manifolds, one with seven foot hose for gas sharing and one with SPG. (In sidemount each regulator must have an SPG.)

  • Two Stage/decompression bottles with regulators and SPGs (40 cu/ft or 80 cu/ft recommended).

  • Tec diving BCD and harness

  • Exposure suit appropriate for environment and dive duration (if using drysuit student must has 20 dives prior to taking course)

  • Weight system (if needed)

  • DSMB / lift bag with reel

  • Backup lift bag / DSMB / Signal tube

  • Two cutting devices

  • Slate

ONE OF THE FOLLOWING COMBINATIONS:
​          - ​Two multigas enriched air capable dive computers
          - One multigas enriched air capable dive computer and a backup single                 gas computer with dive tables
          - One single gas enriched air computer and a backup depth gauge and

            timer with tables

 


How Many Students In The Course?
Our courses are smaller allowing us to focus on your every need along the way of becoming a great diver. We take an average of 2 students per instructor for our technical level courses.


How Long Is The Course? 

The Tec 50 Course has 4 dives in the open water over 2 days and 1 day in the classroom.

Where Do I Go From Here?

The next step in a divers technical training is starting their Trimix training. The first trimix course is the Tec Trimix 65 Course.
